La reiterada representación en puertas y ventanas de figuras esquemáticas, femeninas y masculinas, revela la verdadera obsesión de los dogon por sus antepasados (binu).
Nos descubre su necesidad vital por establecer líneas de ascendencia hasta alcanzar las primeras generaciones, y finalmente a su origen: la gemelidad. Un mundo que fue fecundado por cuatro pares de gemelos engendrados a su vez por los gemelos Nommo, hijos de Amma (el creador). Tras cada puerta y ventana, los dogon rinden culto a uno de esos hermanos: un personaje mítico, gemelo o andrógino, que murió y resucitó para purificar el universo y regir nuestra vida.
The reiterated representation of schematic, feminine and masculine figures in doors and windows, reveal the true obsession of the Dogon for their ancestors (binu). We discover their vital need to establish lines of ancestry going back to the first generations and finally to their origin: twinship. A world that was fertilised by four pairs of twins engendered in turn by the Nommo twins, children of Amma (the creator). Behind each door and behind each window the Dogon worhsip one of those siblings: a mythical character, twin or androgynous, who died and came back to life in order to purify the universe and to govern our life.
